Common Minor Neck Pain

Neck pain usually involves the muscles of the neck.  A spasm or strain can be the cause of pain. Here are some activities that can influence neck pain:

  • Forward head posture:  Holding your head in a forward position while watching TV, reading, working, or using your computer
  • Sleeping posture:  Sleeping on a pillow that is too flat or too high as well As one that doesn’t support your head.  Also, lying on your stomach with your neck twisted in an odd position.
  • Spending long periods of time in the “Thinker’s Pose”
  • Stress:  Increased muscle tone in the muscles of the trapezius muscle (The muscles that runs from the back of the head across the back of the shoulders)
  • Work or exercises that uses your arms or upper body.

Paying attention to your posture during activities can help reduce neck pain.
