Some estimate that over 80 percent of the population will experience low back pain at some time. Most low back pain is related to musculoskeletal pain or pain relating to the muscles, bone and soft tissue. Examples include muscle strain, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, unstable spine and disc involvement.
There are certain common complaints related to low back pain. Muscle spasms on either side or both sides of the spine or pain in the small of the back. A pain is a pain, but a good pain is one that is localized (musculoskeletal related), and a bad pain is one that radiates down the leg (possibly nerve related).
It is important to determine if the pain is localized or radiating to establish the proper treatment plan. Muscle spasms, pain and flexibility should also be addressed to resolve back pain.
