Healthy Knee

Although the knee is a large joint and made up mainly of two large bones, it is an area of the body that is involved in a good deal of pain and injury.

General guidelines to maintaining a healthy knee include:

Good muscle balance and strength.  This includes the muscles on the inside part and outside part of the thigh as well as the front and back of the knee and thigh.  Muscles about the hip and ankle should also be maintained to promote knee health.  One should also be aware of the range of motion of the knee.  A stiff knee will lead to pain and injuries. Limited range of motion could be related to tight muscles and tendons, structural injuries to the bones, ligaments,  connective tissue and even because of pain and swelling.

Good strength and range of motion are two main factors that encourage a healthy knee.
