The spine attempts to keep the head and trunk in balance. There should be four gentle curves in your spine. If one of the curves is greater than normal, another area in the spine will adjust to try and keep the head and truck balanced.
Lordosis is a term used to describe an increased curve in your lower back. This forward curve may be called sway back. This could be caused by Spondylolisthesis ( forward displacement of a lumbar vertebra on the one below it), forward tilting of the pelvis, being overweight or imbalance of some muscle groups to name a few.
The spine makes every effort to keep the head and trunk in balance. A deformity in one area is usually balanced by a deformity in the opposite direction. Being aware of and correcting muscle spasms, pain and posture can help to reduce discomfort.
